American Volleyball League

The 2026 American Volleyball League (AVL) marks the inaugural season of a new professional women’s volleyball league in the United States. Scheduled to debut on June 14, 2026, with its season opener at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa, the league aims to provide additional professional playing opportunities for elite athletes while expanding the visibility of volleyball across the country. The AVL plans a two-month season running from June through July, featuring teams competing in arenas across multiple U.S. markets. League organizers have emphasized player recruitment, coach development, club partnerships, and fan engagement as core elements of the league’s growth strategy. As a startup league, the AVL is positioning itself as a complementary addition to the rapidly expanding professional volleyball landscape in the United States, which has recently seen increased investment and interest in women’s volleyball.

As of June 14, the league was canceled. It's hard to start a new league. Anyone can complain and criticize from the sidelines, but coaches and players moved to new cities and made an honest attempt to make this happen. Best wishes to the players, coaches and staff. Hope this league resurrects - they had the best team names. I instantly became a Spooky Dragons fan!
